We've covered plenty of ground with number sense and have developed a deeper understanding of fluency and how it fits into your classroom. Most of all, the beliefs, opinions, strategies, practices and understandings shared during this time have helped each of you grow professionally and reach your students mathematically in new ways.
\n
\nNow it's time to determine what we do with our current work at this point and what focus this team should have for the 2009-2010 school year, and beyond for that matter. Keep in mind that CAT's will be before school next year, not during the day (cutting back on subs). What do we want to accomplish in 8 face-to-face meetings? In 2009-2010, what areas of mathematics do you see yourself needing to grow professionally? How could the Math CAT support your growth in these areas? In regards to mathematics, what do you see as the focus of this group based on what was accomplished this year?

\nPlease post your comments by April 3rd (or your lose it over Spring Break!).

This is something that we briefly talked about at our last meeting. When we began this year our focus was on looking at our test data. We determined that number sense was an area that needed to be addressed. Now that we have really delved into this area I would benefit professionally by trying different strategies in relation to number sense. I am excited to see what is offered in our new math curriculum. It would be nice to have some math cat time to discuss the Investigations.

I also like the idea of focusing on intervention strategies for our kiddos. In response to Karen, I like the question of how do we effectively teach our math facts. There are many strategies for effectively teaching them, which our new program will address. It's heavy in the number sense area and will definitely build a solid understanding of mathematical concepts with our students. If you didn't get a chance to read the articles for our Math CAT meeting, start there for information.
