I feel that the more we can expose the students to the language\/voc. that will be used on the tests, the better. This will not only help to prepare the students for the test, but much more importantly, help to give them a more well-rounded vocabulary to use in their daily lives. I think that using the language in practical situations (such as how Megan figures out the "mode" on the lunch count daily) will be beneficial for everyone, but especially for those learners who struggle. I think that CAT teams are supposed to focus on vertically aligning the curriculum. It probably seems to not relate to the primary grades as much as 3-6. We greatly appreciate all your efforts in helping us meet our goals. The building blocks create the solid foundation our kids possess by the time they reach 3rd grade.
\n
\nI hope that our CAT teams can find a way to address everyone's concerns and we can work together to accomplish our objectives. Sometimes data can be overwhelming and I know that while it can often make me feel frustrated, it is a valuable piece that can guide instruction.
\n
\nIn an effort to improve our overall performance, I hope that our focus can continue to be on making data driven decisions. As a teacher, it is difficult to critically take a look at student performance, especially when we all know the hard work that we all put into our instruction.","dateCreated":"1223339661","smartDate":"Oct 6, 2008","userCreated":{"username":"meganstacey","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/meganstacey","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"6020281","body":"I think the CAT teams are worth while to see how the building blocks work. I agree that k-2 is different in some cases than 3-6. However, the foundation the kids get is valuable to successful intermediate learning. That is why communication between the school is vital. We can break off at times and work in the primary\/intermediate groups to enhance ideas we are coming up with. It is really important for the older grade levels to know what is occurring so that when we are teaching something we know it has been taught.","dateCreated":"1223504388","smartDate":"Oct 8, 2008","userCreated":{"username":"karynkerns","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/karynkerns","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1222886728\/karynkerns-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"6190745","body":"As the representative for second grade I believe it is crucial for grade 2 to know how we can better prepare our students' for third grade in general and OAT testing in particular. We believe we take our first grade readers and turn them into second grade readers. We respect the talented first grade and kindergarten teachers and the job they do with our students' in terms of literacy. We would like an action plan which matches our standards and helps our students' successfully master the 3rd grade OAT. When our students' leave 2nd grade we do not stop caring about them. I am (speaking for myself not my team) certain that I can learn something from each and every professional in Sherwood Elementary and am ready to do so. I want to be the best teacher I can be!

It is true that we have to know where we came from and where we are headed, if we want to get where we are going. Working with different grade levels gives me a unique perspective. It is great to have the time to get together and discuss what students are expected in the previous grade, and in the next consecutive grade.
